Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
What is naturopathic medicine?
Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of primary health care - an art, science, philosophy and practice of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of illness. Naturopathic medicine is distinguished by the principles, which underlie and determine its practice. Methods used are consistent with these principles and are chosen upon the basis of client individuality. Naturopathic physicians are primary health care practitioners, whose diverse techniques include modern and traditional, scientific and empirical methods (AANP). We utilize natural, non-toxic therapies and attempt to remove the cause of disease.
What modalities do naturopathic doctors use?
Naturopathic Doctors always focus on treating the underlying cause of disease. Common methods used by ND's include herbal medicine, homeopathy, dietary counseling, nutritional supplementation, manipulative therapy, acupuncture, and counseling. These methods are generally safer, and are less toxic.
What are naturopathic licensed doctors?
A licensed naturopathic doctor (N.D.) attends a four-year, accredited graduate level naturopathic medical school. A naturopathic doctor additionally completes over 1,300 hours of clinical work and takes two professional board examinations to be licensed by a particular state. They need to fulfill state mandated continuing education requirements annually and follow the specific scope of practice defined by their state's law (AANP). All States are not licensed to have practicing naturopathic physicians; New Jersey currently does not have licensure. Therefore, naturopathic doctors can not treat or diagnose, but can serve as consultants to aid in your support towards better wellness.
What should I expect on my first client visit?
Your first visit will be much longer than your traditional healthcare visit. It is approximately 60 minutes in length. The new client intake will include a full nutritional analysis, homeopathic assessment, including environment exposures and toxicity. General supplement recommendations will be provided and recommendations for follow up visit will be made.
The new client intake forms take about 30 minutes to complete so it is generally recommended to complete the intake forms before arriving for your first visit. It is also suggested to bring any past laboratory tests and a list of previous conditions you are currently receiving care for.
Return office visits are typically scheduled 4 weeks after the first client visit and are 30 minutes in length.
How many visits will I need to make?
After your initial visit, it is suggested to have a return office visit in 4 weeks. Dr. Jaquel offers several plans based on your health care needs. Clients with more health challenges are suggested to enroll in Dr. Jaquel's Assurance or Dr. Jaquel's Select Plan. Clients seeking general preventive services are suggested to enroll in Dr. Jaquel's Standard Plan. Dr. Jaquel also provides individual one-on-one visits, but suggests a plan (e.g. Dr. Jaquel Assurance or Dr. Jaquel Select) for better continuity of care and support of your health condition. It often takes a considerable amount of time to build up to your current disease state, and it will additionally take time to alleviate these conditions. For this reason, your journey in health will need robust support and continued therapy to reach optimal wellness.
Do you accept insurance?
In Connecticut, Dr. Jaquel carries insurance for all Anthem plans, Cigna, Connecticare, United Healthcare (20% discounted rate) and Healthy CT. For individuals that do not have insurance coverage with these insurance carriers , the initial visit fee is $250 and follow-up visits $150. For individuals with Husky insurance, a 30% discount from self-pay fee will apply. What are our fees?
For clients in New Jersey and/or individuals that do not have insurance coverage by Anthem, United Healthcare, Cigna, Connecticare or Healthy CT in the state of Connecticut, our initial office visit fees are $250 and follow-up visits are $150.
Telehealth (Vsee or Phone) consults are $185 for an initial visit and $120 for follow-up visits. Telehealth services are not covered by insurance.
We also provide annual plans at a discounted rate for clients seeking long term managed care of their disease conditions.
Do you prescribe medications?
No. Naturopathic doctors are not licensed to prescribe pharmaceutical medications in New Jersey or Connecticut.
Do I have to stop taking my prescriptions?
No. It is not suggested to completely stop your prescriptions. Dr. Jaquel requires that all clients have their medical conditions managed by a primary care provider. Dr. Jaquel will work with your primary care provider and/or specialist, as requested, regarding suggested natural therapy supplementation. The natural therapies recommended should not replace the care being received by your primary care provider. However, in many instances, natural therapies can either replace or decrease the use of prescriptive medication. Reduction of prescription medication requires a collaborative approach with your primary care provider and/or specialists. Dr. Jaquel wants you to achieve your health goals safely and effectively.
Should I stop seeing my regular doctor/provider?
No. It is suggested that you see a primary care provider in addition to your care by a naturopathic doctor. We are open to and seek mutual collaboration with your providers to improve your health care.
Can I just use supplements at the health food store or in combination with your therapy?
It is best to receive advice regarding supplementation from a trained and licensed professional such as a naturopathic doctor that graduated from an accredited naturopathic medical program. This will additionally ensure that you are taking products that are safe and at an appropriate amount. Supplements recommended by Dr. Jaquel are tested for quality and assurance by a third party. Products from a health food store or grocery store are not necessarily put through the same, stringent standards as the products suggested by Dr. Jaquel. Your current supplementation regimen will be carefully reviewed and appropriate revisions made.
Do I need to see you in person for an appointment?
It is generally recommended to have the first office visit in person. It will be challenging to assess your homeopathic constitution and makeup without an initial in-person visit. Telehealth consults adhere to the same standards and timeframe as the regular, in person office visits. Dr. Jaquel provides these services through VSee, a secured HIPAA video conferencing platform and by phone. Many clients choose telehealth services after a few in-person office visits and their care is managed properly.
Can you provide gynecologic or prostate exams at your office?
Though naturopathic doctors are trained and able to perform such exams, I do not provide those services at my offices.

What if I have financial difficulties?
We understand that some patients may find it difficult to make an appointment in full during the time of visit. Dr. Jaquel has arranged a payment plan to assist with this situation. No interest will be added for this alternative payment option.
